Kalinita (Goodnight) Greece

The New Year and Michael's birthday have passed, our house sitting assignment is completed, and the time has come for us to travel on.  Since before Christmas we've been living a quiet life, sleeping in late,  posing for funny pictures, hitching the occasional ride into town for provisions and leisurely coffees, and reading quite a bit.  It's been nice, although restless at times with distraction coming in the form of various odd jobs such as repairing holes in olive nets, attending to seasonal drainage issues and, as always, collecting firewood.
We took lots of different pictures for our digital Christmas card.
We've gotten friendly with a few other expats in the village and shared a few teas and meals with them. Bob's taken good care of us, making sure we didn't want for rides to town and including us in his German breakfast routine with a German couple called Ziggy and Ute.  He also came over to dinner on the evening of Michael's birthday.
Lots of empty bottles.
Our other friends, Rod and Bernadette, also came to the birthday evening.  Bernadette even baked Michael a cake.

What is this place?

We've had an incredible time in Greece these past few weeks. Sandy beaches, rocky beaches, craggy mountainsides and spectacular views. Tiny villages, stone cottages, crumbling ruins, allusions to a once-great empire. History lessons, and current political turmoil. We will be a little bit sad to leave this place, and look forward to visiting the Peloponnese again.

Huge thanks to the Woodgate family for all their hospitality and friendship!

Yasas!
